This cuneiform inscription, circa 2300 B.C.E., is the earliest known written representation of the word "freedom" or "liberty," derived from the Sumerian word "amagi." This representation was taken from a clay tablet found in the Sumerian city-state of Lagash. It represents here the author's strong personal belief in the fundamental right of freedom of expression.
